Ever wondered about regulation in the Will Writing industry?
Joining the Society of Will Writers is not mandatory for active professionals in our field. It is a choice they can make to demonstrate to clients that they are safe to do business with.
To join the SWW there are 3 mandatory requirements:
Members must adhere to our Code of Practice. This is our rule book and sets out how members are required to act, and interact with clients.
Members are asked to complete regular training to maintain their knowledge and keep up to date with relevant legislation. This amounts to 24 hours per year. 16 of the 24 hours must be structured (learning that a member can prove) such as College of Will Writing courses, attendance at regional groups, SWW conference or other relevant training. The remaining 8 hours should be made up of unstructured CPD. This is either reading or self-taught learning.
Perhaps most importantly SWW members need to provide the SWW membership team with proof of up to date professional indemnity insurance. This must be to a minimum level of £2m indemnity. This must be in place to protect both the member, their company and of course the client should anything go wrong.
If you have doubts about an SWW member give us a call on 01522 687888.
If you would like to join the SWW then please email [email protected] for application forms or an information pack.

Hi Philip, It’s certainly an interesting and rewarding career. Through the College of Will Writing we can take you from little or no legal knowledge to a point where you feel comfortable taking instructions and turning these into valid legal documents.
If you have any questions please contact [email protected] or [email protected]
