By now you should be aware of the Competition and Markets Authority’s announcement it will conduct a consumer enforcement investigation into the unregulated sector. The SWW has elected to send two responses, one from its Professional Standards Board (PSB), published here, and now a second from the SWW itself, supported by responses and comments sent in by members which we have today sent to the CMA.
The project aims to address consumer complaints raised against the provision of will writing services, pre-paid probate and online divorce. The SWW’s response focuses on the good work its members do, the protections that membership affords the consumer, and its stance against pre-paid probate amongst other themes.
You can download and read the SWW’s response in full here: SWW CMA Response
The SWW would like to thank once again all those members who have engaged with the project, whether by responding directly to the CMA, or by getting involved in contributing to our response. Whilst we were not able to include everything in the main body of the response itself, each and every member’s contribution has been shared with the CMA along with the appropriate credits. You have done your Society and your profession proud.
Thanks must also be given to the SWW PSB and Regional Chairs for their support, it is always appreciated.
We will continue to closely follow the project and engage with the CMA as it progresses, publishing any further updates and information as and when possible.
