Our data protection partner Astrid has launched data protection and GDPR training for will writers and estate planners offered on the online learning platform, Udemy. We have collaborated in the development of the course and as a result it counts for one hour of structured CPD for our members.
The course is comprised of bite-sized videos, templates and tests covering how to get GDPR compliant if you’re a will writer and data protection for will-writing businesses. Members that work through all the elements and complete the course are issued with a certificate which provides the evidence we need to validate the CPD. Priced at only £29,99 (with discount code sow2020) the course is very affordable and participants are also offered a 20% discount off an Astrid subscription providing them with all the tools and guidance required to become and remain compliant with GDPR.
To find out more and take the course, go to the Astrid Training website – ‘data protection & GDPR for will writers’.
Why is GDPR training important?
The personal information that we handle for our clients is sensitive and as such the consequences of non-compliance – for both clients and members’ businesses – are huge. As a result, data protection is something we consider so important that it’s mentioned in our Code of Practice.
The majority of data problems that arise are due to human error. In 2019, eight out of every ten data incidents reported to the ICO were caused by simple human error (rather than a computer hacker attack). The regulator dislikes problems that happen but could have been prevented with basic knowledge and simple training. In line with this, the ICO expects everyone who handles personal information to receive data protection training and have a basic understanding of their, and the organisation’s, responsibilities. The ICO also want to see that the organisation has a record of this.
