Once a year the SWW organises an event for the benefit of its members and the wider estate planning industry. This event gives people a chance to come together to hear a number of engaging and relevant speakers and to speak to our carefully selected exhibitors. This year is no different.
Our conference this year takes place on the 9th and 10th October at the Abbey Hotel in Redditch. Booking in advance is necessary to ensure your space but it will be totally worth it.
Here is a brief list of the speakers attending at this years conference:
Darren Leggett
Darren runs Executor Solutions. He has been to a number of SWW conferences and understands the needs of the estate planning profession. His company assist executor with selling houses quickly and efficiently.
Tim Farmer
Tim will be familiar to those of you that have been to previous SWW conferences. Tim gave a workshop on assessing mental capacity a couple of years ago and is back this year by popular demand. Tim will be presenting on day one covering what considerations you as practitioners should make when seeing clients and many of you may like Tim’s new book ‘Grandpa on a Skateboard’.
Craig Ward
Craig is a solicitor and tutor for the College of Will Writing. His field of expertise concerns vulnerable clients and he is the author for the Law Society’s text book on Lasting Power of Attorney. Craig will be explaining how we can assist vulnerable clients to access our services.
Caroline Bielanska
We’ve invited Caroline to conference a couple of times and we’re delighted that she is joining us for our ‘vulnerable client’ focused conference. Caroline, like Craig, is a part of the group – Solicitors for the Elderly and she will be covering key changes in social care including claiming money back for care fees. This is one not to miss.
Laytons LLP
Following a brief discussion at last years conference and the formal legislative introduction this year practitioners are calling for more information on the Residential Nil Rate Band (RNRB). Three of the team at Laytons LLP will be covering this topic this year. It’s our pleasure to welcome for the first time Tim Harrison, Simrun Garcha, and Munazza Hollingsworth.
We have revived a tradition and are delighted to welcome Derek Forbes back our MC for the event. Derek was instrumental in organising the first conferences the SWW held and 20 years later he’s still supporting us having introduced our last 3 conferences.
The workshops we hold on the morning of conference day two are quickly becoming a staple source of information for the active professional. We put a lot of effort into carefully selecting speakers who can provide an edgy and informative session to delegates. That’s exactly what we have planned.
Chris Erwood
Chris spoke at our 2014 conference. She has a wealth of knowledge which she will be imparting during her workshop on the RNRB. Attendees can expect practical case studies and it will supplement the information provided on day one.
Adam Johnson
We couldn’t hold a conference focusing on vulnerable clients without Adam’s input. Adam recently accepted the SWW’s invitation to become a tutor for its training arm, the College of Will Writing and has written a course for the benefit of College students. This course has already become over subscribed and additional dates are being sought. This workshop will give delegates the opportunity to understand more about long term care, a subject in which Adam is very knowledgeable.
Sally Jones
As a rule we don’t invite a speaker back to the following years conference but we simply couldn’t ignore the demand for Sally’s return. Members enjoyed her discussion on day one of last year and it would have been foolish of us not to invite her back to present a workshop this year. This year the workshop will centre around what is new at the OPG. No doubt Sally, as the head of the OPG’s legal team, will inform delegates about the recently changed registration fees but will provide a more generalised history of the OPG too. Certainly not one to miss.
Hopefully we have whet your appetite as to what you can expect from the SWW’s conference. We would remind you that this event is not strictly for SWW members and that any active professional who is passionate about developing their knowledge is welcome, be it solicitors, accountants, financial advisers etc.
