Mentoring Programme

New members sometimes tell us that whilst they receive technical training, they feel they need help with the practicalities of launching and running their business in the early days. Similarly, some of our longer-term members tell us they would like to grow or they have a specific challenge they would like help with.

Whilst SWW Regional Meetings offer support on a group basis, some of our members feel they would like individual help for a short while. So, whether you’re new to the profession or have been in Estate Planning for a while, as a Full SWW member (MSWW^) you are eligible to apply for the SWW Mentorship Programme.* We aim to match you with a mentor who has relevant experience or knowledge, so telling us a bit about you will help us to make sure you have the right person alongside you.

It is our firm belief that by offering a mentorship programme, we can all raise standards in our profession together.

How does it work?

Mentees will be matched with a trained mentor and will get up to 12 months of assistance from them. Regular monthly meetings and check-ins will help identify actions, set goals and make plans to help keep you on track!

Am I eligible to be a mentor?

We’re looking for SWW members who are:

• Experienced
• 3+ years as a full SWW Member
• Want to help others
• Willing to give up a little of your time

Mentoring Commitment

Becoming a mentor is a serious uptaking, and will require your full cooperation and support with the programme. Mentors will need to commit to the following:

• Two sessions of training (total 4.5 hours)
• A 12-month commitment to your mentee – an hour meeting each month
• Attendance at our regular mentor Best Practice Meetings – an hour every other month
• For our first phase, this will be from June 2023 to May 2024

In return, being a mentor rewards you by strengthening your leadership skills and providing you with new skills, as well as counting towards your SWW CPD and giving you enormous satisfaction.

What training do I get?

We provide two initial virtual training sessions:

• Session 1 (Foundation) is 3 hours and covers expectations, looks at some of your own skills, and has practical training exercises to make the most of your mentoring.
• Session 2 (Ways of Working) is 90 minutes and covers the structure, forms and processes we use.
• Additional skills training is included in the mentor forums we will run every other month.

Training Dates

Session 1:

• Thursday 18th May 09:30 – 13:30 or;
• Tuesday 23rd May 13:00 – 15:00

Session 2:

• Wednesday 31st May 14:00 – 15:30 or;
• Monday 5th June 09:30 – 11:00
